Residential development, Kittenmühle, Herrliberg
Living in the clearing
Year constructed: 2007
The hamlet of Kittenmühle is situated on Herrliberg's northern boundary with Erlenbach between wide agricultural meadows and a forest. The former sawmill site features two streams flowing through it and is slightly sunken, surrounded by a grandiose backdrop of trees. This idyllic, almost monastic atmosphere has captivating qualities: nature, water, tranquillity. The structure of the twelve luxuriously designed condominiums is harmoniously coordinated with these surroundings, with high rooms, large picture windows and abundant living space. In this way, the fantastic scenic backdrop merges with the private interior to produce a singular quality. Together with the elaborate park, this architectural work in three parts creates a carefully cultivated interior.
Timeless façades and cubic forms characterise the design. The distinctive demands of this upscale lifestyle are reflected on the outside by the light-coloured travertine limestone. Interacting with the wide glass windows in their bronze-coloured frames, the three buildings maintain a constant dialogue with their natural surroundings.
