Residence, Lake Zurich
Built for symbiosis
Year constructed: 2018
The plot is located high above the village centre of a Zurich lakeside community. Due to its permanently unobstructed location on the lake side, the residents have a magnificent view of the mountain panorama and the lake basin. The existing flats were demolished up to and including the ground floor and the basement was sustainably reused as a foundation for the new single-family house.
The beautiful old trees on the grounds were integrated into the project, even determining the design. In particular, the large lime tree on the hillside by the entrance area had a decisive impact on the building. The recessed ground floor supports the homogeneous, cantilevered upper floor. The offset storeys create exciting outdoor spaces with sheltered retreats. The alucobond façade of the upper floor, which changes in colour from bronze to champagne, exhibits a different character depending on the time of day and the mood created by the light. It combines with the green of the surrounding trees to lend the building its singular elegance. The interior design restricts itself to three materials, lending consistency to the design concept throughout the structure.
