Residential development, Thalwil

Urban living
Year constructed: 2003

The "Alte Landstrasse" and the "Pilgerweg" thoroughfares frame this new residential building in Thalwil. With its independent elegance, the horizontally oriented building blends harmoniously into these surroundings in the village centre. It accommodates a total of seven flats, one of which is designed as a loft. The wall to the outside is set back from the façade. The resulting outdoor space eliminates the transition between interior and exterior and yet preserves privacy. The staircase is ventilated. During the day, the flats present themselves in a nobly restrained manner; in the evening, however, the building reveals itself as a transparent luminous structure proclaiming life and openness. The staggered horizontal layers are permeable from the lake-oriented east side with its large loggia to the mountain-oriented west side. Chrome steel columns and concrete walls create closure to the street and to neighbours.
