Residential development, Lake Zurich
Grandiose living feeling
Year constructed: 2018
The property is situated on an enchanted peninsula in Lake Zurich between an old park with beautiful trees and a neighbourhood of detached houses. A flat plot of land shaded by tall trees offers recurring glimpses of Lake Zurich.
Two residential buildings are to be connected to form a single residential sculpture. A later possibility involves division of the house into four residential units. Great importance is attached to the quality of the surroundings and the interior.
The two residential buildings stand at an angle to each other that encloses the park and the beautiful trees. These are connected by continuous ground slabs with a strong horizontal emphasis and a car park. A cantilevered balcony wraps around the buildings to provide weather protection and permit retreat and privacy. This creates a fusion between the building and the park-like lawn, allowing the possibility of sheltered egress and a lingering view of the outdoors. Between the cantilevered storey ceilings, vertical bronze slats allow the penetration of sunlight while offering privacy protection, giving the interior yet another sense of connection between inside and outside. The outer façade is of limestone, while the interior features dark-coloured glass that reflects the surroundings and trees. Interiors are light and flowing, alternating between sheltered corners and open glass fronts. The result is an exciting residential building in a park-like setting, which, in the manner of a pavilion and yet firmly anchored, welcomes the trees into the living space.
