PEARL BY THE LAKE. The spacious existing building with its pent roof dates back to 1929. It was built in the Bauhaus style and features a separate boathouse. Its extraordinary location close to Zurich's city limits offers a magnificent view of the lake and the distant mountains as well as of the city, made possible by the newly built embankment – or peninsula, if you will. The building stock, found to be in deplorable condition, had to be preserved, reinforced and outfitted like a new building at considerable cost. New, large windows, placed to optimize the view, as well as a completely new floor plan and a state-of-the-art building and energy system give the expansive villa its extraordinary character. A new annex on the side facing the street houses additional living space as well as the garage while shielding the villa from traffic noise. The building's surroundings consist of the courtyard-like back facing the street and the platform-type extension facing the lake and the open space. Its unusual shape and the carefully selected and harmonized materials, in concert with the landscaping, lend the villa a bold, yet sophisticated appearance.
